    Salary Range: $18.38 To $22.98 Hourly

    Join our team as Golf Maintenance Technician at Little Miami Golf Course in Newtown, OH. Little Miami offers a 9-hole regulation course, a 9-hole par 3 course, lawn bowling, a putt-putt course, bermudagrass/ryegrass range tee, a covered range tee and a large practice facility.  There are Zoysia grass fairways on the regulation course and bentgrass fairways on the par 3.  We have a Toro Lynx irrigation control system, and the regulation course is block style Toro 800 check-o-matic heads on greens and tees. The fairways are electric Toro infinity heads and the par 3 is all electric Toro 800 heads. There are around 50,000 rounds annually at these courses. The equipment is new to fairly new on a 10 year replacement interval and is very well maintained.

    The Golf Maintenance Technician performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks to maintain and improve grounds, equipment, and facilities at one or more golf courses.   

    • Resolves routine problems and ensures work is completed as directed and in conformance with quality standards.  Requires weekend, holiday, early morning, and evening work.
    • Performs various grounds maintenance tasks at one or more golf courses.  
    • Applies fertilizer, pesticides and aquacides.  
    • Clears brush and small trees.  
    • Mows right of way, rough areas, and golf course playing surfaces. 
    • Plants flowers, shrubs, trees, and grass seed.  
    • Water and fertilize plants, prunes trees and shrubs, weeds flower beds and performs other gardening tasks as directed. 
    • May assist with snow removal from roadways, parking areas and walkways. 
    • Performs minor mechanical repairs and performs routine preventive maintenance to small gasoline engines in tractors, mowers, pumps, utility carts, trucks, and other equipment.
    • Adjusts reel and rotary mowers for proper cutting heights and correct quality of cut.  
    • Performs annual, or as needed mower repairs and rebuilding work.  
    • May participate in annual reel mower grinding and sharpening program.
    • Performs janitorial responsibilities.  
    • Performs irrigation and other minor plumbing repairs.  
    • Performs minor building and carpentry repairs.
    • Responds to public questions and represents Great Parks in a positive manner at all times.
    • Places a high priority on employee and guest safety.  Ensures compliance and adherence to safety procedures, training is completed and documentation is maintained.
    • Purchases supplies and equipment as assigned.  Adheres to purchasing card procedures and submits expenditures for supervisor approval. Logs work performed, problems encountered, parts used and other required information.

    Employee regularly lifts or exerts force on items up to 25 pounds, with occasional weights in excess of 50 pounds.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    An appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills, and abilities.  An example of an acceptable qualification is: 

    High School Degree or GED 

    2 years prior work experience in golf course maintenance or grounds/park maintenance.

    Ability to document identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of original appointment as a condition of employment in compliance with Immigration Reform and Control Act requirements.

    LICENSE OF CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

    State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that meets GPHC current carrier guidelines; State of Ohio Pesticide Applicator’s License within one year of employment.

    The equipment manager places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. The equipment manager reports to the golf course Superintendent and/or the Director of Grounds & Assistant golf course Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for the golf course assets. 

    This program includes the diagnostics and repair of failing equipment, keeping records of parts and labor needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The equipment manager properly communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the superintendent and/or the assistant superintendent, and schedules and directs the work assignments of the assistant equipment manager.


    Functions

    • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course maintenance equipment, including, diesel-, electric- and gasoline-powered automobiles, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, mowers, and other mechanical equipment used in utility work.

    • Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning of and safe operation of equipment.

    • Prioritizes equipment repair and maintenance work.

    • Maintains a preventive maintenance program within budget on all equipment, and purchases repair parts and replacement supplies.

    • Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.

    • Spot checks equipment for performance on the course, makes emergency repairs to equipment on the course, and services or supervises servicing of equipment prior to use.

    • Oversees the shop area maintenance.

    • Regulates employees' use of equipment in absence of Director, Superintendent and Assistant superintendent, if needed, and performs other duties as directed by the Superintendent.

    • Recommends equipment purchases and leases.






    Employment standards

    • Working knowledge of light and heavy maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses.

    • Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair.

    • Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment.

    • Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.

    • Ability to move heavy objects.

    • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.

    • Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work.

    • Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications as specified by supervisor.

    • Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records.

    • Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.

    • Possession of a valid driver's license.

    Compensation:

    • $24.00-$26.00 per hour + OT, limited weekends annually

The Assistant Grounds Superintendent plays an integral leadership role in collaboration, critical thinking and decision making in all facets of the operation including but not limited to:

    • Team leadership and operations management of 20 staff members
    • Knowledge of cloud-based collaboration (Google Drive and other industry applications)
    • Budget and agronomic program development
    • Attendance of committee, GCA meetings
    • Mentoring/Coaching of turfgrass interns and Assistant-in-Training
