    SUMMARY

    The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for managing all agronomic aspects of Wedgewood Golf & Country Club and delivering championship playing conditions on a daily basis. The Superintendent will be a strong, energetic, highly communicative, detail-oriented team leader with a member-centric focus and the demonstrated ability to provide exceptional golf course conditioning. The Superintendent performs all duties necessary in the proper management and control of the golf course operations and turfgrass maintenance.

    The club recently contracted with our original architect, Robert Trent Jones, II Architects to prepare a Master Modernization Plan, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021. Our hopes are to begin construction in the fall of 2022. Current plans are to: rebuild all bunkers, shift/enlarge/rebuild select teeing grounds, enlarge driving range tees and create additional targets, selective tree removal/trimming, remove all bent grass in the rough, extend irrigation to all playable areas of the rough, replace all current sprinkler heads and install dual-directional heads around greens, reinforce greenside lakebanks, install additional closely mown areas around select greens, and make mild architectural updates to select holes. The ideal candidate can expect to oversee a significant reinvestment in the golf course early in their tenure at Wedgewood. The ideal candidate should be prepared to join our team by the end of 2021.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Golf Course Superintendent’s primary, but not exclusive responsibilities include the following:

    • Above all else – will be a vital part of a team environment where everyone shares in the responsibilities of making Wedgewood Golf & Country Club an exceptional club
    • Develops an annual operating budget for department, monitors and takes corrective actions as necessary to assure budgeted goals are achieved
    • Responsible for hiring, training, and managing a staff of Assistant Golf Course Superintendents, a Mechanic, and hourly associates and oversees their professional development
    • Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and control of a large fleet of golf course maintenance equipment, keeps necessary maintenance records, and makes recommendations for future equipment purchases
    • Oversees the care and maintenance of all turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees, revines and wetlands on the facility grounds
    • Supervises and controls all maintenance expenses associated with Golf Course Operations, including payroll, supplies, chemicals and fertilizers
    • Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation and watering systems
    • Assures that effective orientation and training for new staff and professional development activities for experienced staff are planned and implemented
    • Keeps members abreast of current and future turf maintenance activities
    • Negotiates and supervises annual landscaping contracts, ensures proper landscaping of club property including the clubhouse and adjacent areas
    • Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees in compliance with local, state and federal laws; implements and manages the club’s hazard communication (HazCom) program.
    • Communicates as necessary with the Director of Golf to evaluate conditions of facilities, maintenance plans, and scheduled events
    • Responsible for the care and maintenance of paved areas and sidewalks, and oversees all snow removal on property
    • Attends Manager Meetings and conducts periodic staff meetings focusing on ongoing education
    • Attends national and chapter association conferences and meetings
    • Ensures the highest standards of sanitation, cleanliness and safety are maintained
    • Maintains a professional, creative, fun and safe work environment
    • Conducts themselves in a responsible and professional manner at all times – at or away from club
    • Performs other duties as the General Manager may direct that are consistent with this job description

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 3-5 years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at course/club with championship-level playing conditions
    • College degree from an accredited Turfgrass Management program
    • GCSAA membership strongly preferred
    • Applicable pesticide application license
    • Proven leadership qualities with demonstrated ability to direct, coordinate, and manage all facets of a championship-level golf course’s maintenance
    • A natural leader who brings out the very best in those around them by setting clear goals and expectations, providing consistent feedback and support, and is respectful and professional in all interpersonal dealings
    • Must possess a positive attitude and is professional in nature with a high degree of integrity, strong work ethic, and can handle a fast-paced, high energy environment and clientele
    • An intuitive, personable style resulting in a sincere and visibly engaged presence with members, guests, and staff
    • Sound and current knowledge of human resource practices, including wage and hour laws, employment and discharge, equal opportunity employment, and OHSA regulations

    NOTES:


    Additional Salary Information: Base salary of $110,000 - $125,000 will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Annual performance incentives of up to $10,000 are in addition to base salary. A comprehensive benefits package is available that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, GCSAA annual dues reimbursement, complimentary meals while on duty, and a 401k plan.

    Position Summary: As a key member of the property’s golf course maintenance team, the Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and assists with the day‐to‐day oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance complex.

    Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:1‐3 years turf grass management experience required • Supervisory experience required • A four‐year college degree preferred, but not required • GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred, but not required • Knowledge of budgeting and expense management • Must possess basic computer skills – Word and Excel • Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business • Must be highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail • Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills • Must possess strong analytical and problem‐solving skills

    Position Responsibilities:Supervises and trains foreman, irrigations technician and other employees in the maintenance department • Prepares weekly schedules for foreman, irrigations staff and other employees in the maintenance department • Monitors inventory of all maintenance equipment and the use of the equipment, preventative maintenance schedule, and safety training • Works closely with Superintendent in managing annual budget and maintenance recordkeeping • Works closely with Superintendent in preparing short‐term and long‐term agronomic strategies to maintenance of the golf course daily, weekly, monthly and yearly fertilization, irrigation, etc. schedules • Calibrates and operates pesticide sprayers • Institute and implement all IGP Human Resources guidelines • Assists Superintendent in informing members about present and future maintenance activities 

    Working Conditions: • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. • The employee is often required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls. • They will occasionally be required to balance,stoop, twist upper body, kneel, and climb. • The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 30lbs occasionally. • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and depth perception. • Moderate exposure to extreme cold, heat, working outdoors, chemicals, pesticides, gasoline, vibration, pollen, dust, mechanical hazards and electrical hazards. • Noise level is typically moderate to loud • Work extended hours during golf and holiday season • Work weekends and holidays

    Kenwood Country Club is looking for a self -motivated person to fill a Horticulturist position. The proper candidate will be tasked with designing and maintaining extensive Annual Displays, Club House Landscaping, along with some golf course maintenance.

    Job Requirements: · Have or is actively pursuing a 2 or 4-year degree in Horticulture or with 3 years of professional experience in horticulture or closely related field. · Valid Driver’s License. · Possess or obtain a Ohio Pesticide applicator’s license within 90 days. · Motivated self-starter who has an eye for details. · Develop and implement standard operating procedures for landscape management. · Can work in all weather conditions. · Flexible work schedule—work weekends and holidays as needed. · Operation of power equipment and heavy machinery if needed. · Some Spanish preferred but not required.
