GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT (position available 1/1/2020)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Performs a variety of supervisory and skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of golf course buildings and grounds.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with employees, members, vendors, and the general public.

Supervises maintenance workers, mechanics, and part-time/temporary employees, as required.

Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources.

Plans and organizes workloads and staff assignments.

Trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned staff; reviews progress and directs changes as needed.

Prepares and maintains daily, monthly and annual reports and records, as required.

Oversees and assists in the mowing and maintenance of golf course fairways, rough, greens, tee boxes, wild areas and other open space areas within the property.

Oversees and maintains landscaping on the golf course and grounds.

Maintains golf course pump and sprinkler systems and authorizes the repair and installation of sprinkler lines and heads as needed and directed. Experience with LYNX system preferred.

Directs seeding, fertilizing, top dressing, soil conditioning, watering, and chemicals programs.

Identifies turf diseases and pest control issues and responds appropriately.

Maintains Material Safety Data Sheets and follows all chemical storage and usage regulations.

Coordinates with Pro staff to coordinate tournaments/outings and special events.

Communicates with Pro staff on the opening and closing of the course due to weather conditions.

Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules, and expedites workflow; adjusts and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of operation within budget.

Develops and implements golf course maintenance and operating procedures.

Projects needs for equipment, materials and supplies for annual budget.

Assures that tools and equipment are properly maintained and kept in proper working order.

Assigns, supervises, and evaluates all agronomy department employees.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

A minimum of a two-year turf management degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution is strongly preferred, with at least seven years of experience in golf course turf maintenance.

Knowledge of soils and turf. Knowledge of fertilizers and chemicals used in golf course maintenance. Ability to calibrate spray equipment and spreaders.

Pest applicator license preferred; or ability to obtain certification within twelve months preferred.

Ability to design, coordinate, and maintain landscaping on the golf course to include grounds. Ability to create spray programs for golf course greens, tees, fairways, rough, and landscaping.
Understanding of the basic rules of golf and etiquette.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety.

Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work required.
Ability to give oral and written instructions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
